Cameroon Casinos
The Republic of Cameroon, located in Central Africa, may not seem the most obvious destination for those after a trip to the casino, but in fact for over 30 years, Cameroon casinos have been drawing in the punters. The country has two cities in which legalized gambling can be enjoyed, the capital, Yaoundé, located in the center of the country, and the port of Douala, which is Cameroon’s largest city and the capital of the Littoral province.
Cameroon casinos are mostly located in many of the country’s luxury hotels. The largest casino in the country is in Yaoundé at the Yaoundé Hilton, in the heart of the center of the capital on Boulevard du 20 Mai. It is open daily from 4 pm to 4 am, and offers gamblers 8 table games and 60 slot machines. In these luxurious surroundings, residents and guests of the hotel can play blackjack, roulette, & poker. Furthermore, when guests tire of gambling, the hotel has 255 rooms, with four restaurants and two bars and offers the use of a fitness center and an outdoor swimming pool.
Cameroon’s other main casino is in Douala, in the Le Méridien Hotel Douala, on 35 Avenue des Cocotiers, which overlooks the Wouri River. It is open from 8 pm to 4 am, and offers three tables of blackjack, two of roulette, and one for poker. The casino also hosts international poker tournaments at various times throughout the year. The hotel has 144 rooms, a piano bar, a sauna, and a swimming pool complex.
Not every one of the Cameroon casinos is located in a hotel. Visitors to Douala for instance can, in addition to the Le Méridien Hotel, enjoy a flutter at the country’s newest gambling center, the Treasure Hunter casino. The Treasure Hunter is located in the Akwa area’s busiest street, the Boulevard de Liberte. This casino, which was opened by operator Games World in 2005, was West & Central Africa’s first all-electronic casino, with a “cashless” card system that can be used in all the gaming machines. In total, it offers 74 slot machines of the latest design and technology, and its poker machines offer a 96% per cent payout. The casino’s opening hours are from 1 pm to 4 am.
So, although Las Vegas might not be losing any sleep over the competition from Cameroon, between Yaoundé and Douala, the African country has more than enough casinos to satisfy almost anyone’s gambling urge.
